“Why should I pray if I don’t feel like it?”

“Developing a consistent life of prayer is critical to the Christian life, but it is one of the most difficult things to do.” – Wes Hall

We all find it easy to engage with God when we feel His presence, but how do we engage with Him when we do not feel Him near? Why is it important that we maintain consistency in the place of prayer? In this video, Wes Hall, Stuart Greaves, and Stephen Venable share how they push through the dry times while giving insight into why perseverance is such a crucial aspect of the Christian walk.

Devotional Perseverance

Our devotional life cannot hinge on what we experience from day to day. Stephen’s desire is that his devotional life be grounded in the truth of who God is and His worthiness to be adored and sought after. We absolutely must stay faithful. Reading the Word and speaking it back to God is not only valuable, it is our lifeline.

Faith

Stuart points out that living a life of prayer is a matter of faith. We don’t measure reality based on what we experience with our five senses. Even in our most moving experiences with the Lord, we are still living by faith. James 4:8 states, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” In the moments when our senses are not engaged, the knowledge and belief that our prayer counts will bring great strength to our hearts.
