About IHOPKC Staff Writer

On May 7, 1999, the International House of Prayer of Kansas City (IHOPKC) was founded by Mike Bickle and twenty full-time “intercessory missionaries,” who cried out to God in prayer with worship for thirteen hours each day. Four months later, on September 19, 1999, prayer and worship extended to the full 24/7 schedule. The International House of Prayer is an evangelical missions organization that is committed to praying for the release of the fullness of God’s power and purpose, as we actively win the lost, heal the sick, feed the poor, make disciples, and impact every sphere of society—family, education, government, economy, arts, media, religion, etc. Our vision is to work in relationship with the wider Body of Christ to serve the Great Commission, as we seek to walk out the two great commandments to love God and people.

I am so thankful for my time at IHOPU. To me, this school is one of the most unique places on earth. By having all its schools centered around a 24/7 prayer room, IHOPU has served as an environment where both my mind and heart can grow. After two and a half years of being a student, I have found that I am not only gaining understanding and knowledge about Scripture, but I am also gaining love for the Man I am studying.

Spending time in the prayer room, which is one of our class requirements, has helped me process the information I am learning in class as I turn my studies into conversations with God. This consistent dialogue with God has caused my heart to love Him more. It is a great environment for a Bible student to be in!

I came to IHOPU in 2012, right after finishing my bachelor’s degree in broadcast at one of the best universities in China. However, it is here at Forerunner Media Institute that I gained technical knowledge for both media communication and webstream (even more than I had learned in the previous four years), and also gained vision to be a media messenger, proclaiming the gospel through media.

Forerunner Media Institute has given me access to all kinds of equipment to do interviews, studio TV shows, and live webstreaming. In an environment of trust, inspiration, and encouragement, the instructors not only train us in a professional capacity, but also equip us with vision to proclaim God’s truth through media and with knowledge of the Word in the context of a house of prayer.

I have greatly enjoyed the rich variety of experience I have gained …

My past two years at Forerunner Music Academy have been nothing short of life-changing. I was raised in a Christian family, so before coming here I had my own personal walk with Jesus and even felt like I knew Scripture pretty well. But if there’s anything I have learned in my time here, it’s that “God is great, and we do not know Him” and that “His greatness is unsearchable” (Job 36:26; Ps. 145:3). My classes have thrust me into searching out the heart of the Lord through friendship and dialogue with Him through His Word, and it has changed my life.

What has probably impacted me the most, though, is getting to apply what I’m learning in my classes to our harp and bowl lab classes. Having the opportunity to play my instrument, sing the Word, and seek the Lord with …

Message from the President

Letter from the Chancellor

We live in exciting yet covering times. In our own nation, many young adults are hungry for more of Jesus and to walk in the fullness of God’s purpose, while many others are selling out for a humanistic and “potentially correct” theology that trivializes the glory of Jesus.

We stand at a critical juncture. The Holy Spirit is visiting His people with power, yet the powers of darkness are also raging against America’s moral fabric.

The light is getting brighter as the darkness gets darker. It is time to draw a line in the sand. We must boldly speak what the Spirit is saying, and we must act on it.

International House of Prayer University (IHOPU) is for students who long to encounter Jesus. Becoming a student at IHOPU is an excellent way to prepare for a life of serving Jesus …

“How much should Christians get involved in politics?”

Wes Hall, Stuart Greaves, and Stephen Venable discuss the involvement of Christians in politics.

“Is the Bible authoritative?”

Today, incredible pressure is being placed on universities and seminaries to reevaluate the origin and inerrancy of Scripture. Numerous articles and books are written with the goal of undermining the authority of the written Word. In this video, Jono Hall, Allen Hood, and Stephen Venable discuss the paramount question, “Is the Bible authoritative?”

What do we mean by “inerrancy”?

When we say that the Bible is inerrant, we mean that the manuscripts canonized in the Bible in their original form were inspired; the Holy Spirit breathed life on those words. Therefore, the Bible is trustworthy, reliable,  and without error.

Why is this important?

Once you undermine the authority of Scripture, you become vulnerable to any wind of teaching. If the Bible is a human document, nothing more than a history of man’s attempts to understand God, it will always be constrained to this culture. It can be shaped and …

“What should I do if I’m offended by someone?”

The issue of offense is an important topic in the Body of Christ. Stewarding our hearts in the place of prayer is paramount to having healthy relationships with our brothers and sisters in Christ, how do we walk it out? In this video, Jono Hall, Stuart Greaves, and Brain Kim discuss how they handle the issues of conflict and offense.

Self-examination

We can ask the Lord to identify any area of offense in our hearts. The Bible recounts many incidents of people being offended with the Lord, and the power of Jesus to win them over. Stuart says that when offense rises, he is often confronted with his small capacity to love, so the Lord’s capacity to love is Stuart’s focus. His prayer; Give me an increased capacity to love, in order to win over a brother who I am offended by or who is offended …
