Health Insurance

The Patient and Affordable Care Act, commonly called the Affordable Care Act or “Obamacare” is a United States federal statute signed into law by President Barack Obama on March 23, 2010. Under the Affordable Care Act, almost every American MUST have health insurance or face a tax penalty. Most will have it through their employer, some will retain their own current policy, many will be covered though Medicare/Medicaid/TRICARE, some will qualify for an exemption, and some will choose to purchase a plan through the Healthcare Marketplace. The fee for not having insurance in 2015 is $325 per adult ad $162.50 per child (up to $975 for a family) or 2 percent of your taxable income—whichever is greater.

Information about Health Insurance Offered through the International House of Prayer

  • Open enrollment for health insurance begins in the fall.
  • Full-time IHOPU students are eligible to participate in only one of the health insurance plans offered by IHOPKC: the Essential Coverage Plan offered through Thomas McGee insurance agency. Students are responsible for 100 percent of the cost.
  • The Essential Coverage Plan fulfills the individual mandate of the Affordable Care Act and electing to participate in this plan will protect an individual from the IRS penalty.
  • After enrolling, your insurance plan cannot be cancelled or changed unless you graduate, withdraw, or are expelled from IHOPU. The only exception is if you have a qualifying exception, such as the birth of a child.
  • IHOPU students who elect health insurance coverage are required to establish an automatic monthly payment by credit card, debit, or ACH withdrawal. These recurring monthly payments must be set up through Human Resources. If a monthly payment is missed, insurance coverage will be immediately terminated.

  1. Visit my.ihopkc.org.
  2. Enter your username and password. Your username is your student email address with “.staff” inserted before “@ihopu.org.” (e.g., if your name is Mary Missionary, your username is missionarym.staff@ihopu.org). Once you enter your username and password, click the Login button.
  3. The portal has several apps, or applications. The default app is the Payview app offering financial information. To view all apps, select the Staff Resources menu on the right-hand side of the page.
  4. From the Staff Resources menu (across the top of the screen), select Insurance Resources.
