With three original songs, three modern Christmas tunes, and six traditional carols, Christmas is an eclectic mix of styles, seamlessly flowing together as it unfolds the story of good news for mankind. With a gospel choir, a little bluegrass, acoustic guitar, children’s voices, new arrangements, and more, there is something for everyone on this album, as we celebrate Christ coming to earth.
Julie shares with us her song “Please Remember Me,” which she wrote back in 1990 for her family, the first Christmas she was not able to be with them at their family farm. As memories of Christmases past flooded back, she soon found herself not only writing a letter to them, but singing it. The song was her gift to her family that Christmas. In it she reminds us of all the fun things we do at Christmas, as well as remembering the many blessings that the Lord has given us through His first coming.
The lyrics of “Who Would Have Thought?” are taken directly from the text of Luke chapter 2. It began when Julie opened her Bible to Luke 2 and decided to write about whatever struck her heart. She began to ask herself the question “Who would have thought that lowly shepherds would be chosen to hear the song the angels sang?” Julie shares, “But isn’t that just like Jesus? He chooses the insignificant small things of the earth to reveal His greatness and His glory. Oh, to be a shepherd, standing on a hill tending the sheep the night heaven came down to earth and sang of the much-awaited news: He is here! He is born!”
Two other favorite arrangements on the album are “O Come, All Ye Faithful“ and “Little Drummer Boy.” The children’s choir on “The First Noël” is adorable, and includes Julie’s nieces and nephew. Jaye Thomas and The Cry bring a breath of new life to “Little Drummer Boy” as they accompany Julie with an a cappella vocal arrangement.
Julie has been part of the International House of Prayer since its inception in 1999, and is a favorite worship leader around the world, not just in Kansas City. She often travels to minister at various international conferences, and appears on GOD TV from time to time.
