Mike Bickle Signs The Nashville Statement

September 25, 2017 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

In a time of societal confusion over issues of sexuality, marriage, and identity, on August 29, 2017, an evangelical coalition released a statement entitled The Nashville Statement. The statement, comprised of fourteen affirmations and denials, addresses issues related to human sexuality, and its full text can be found here.

John Piper said, “The Nashville Statement is a Christian manifesto concerning issues of human sexuality. It speaks with forthright clarity, biblical conviction, gospel compassion, cultural relevance, and practical helpfulness. It will prove to be, I believe, enormously helpful for thousands of pastors and leaders hoping to give wise, biblical, and gracious guidance to their people.”

Denny Burk said, “It is our prayer that this statement might provide help for churches and Christian organizations that are looking for biblical guidance on how to address homosexuality and transgenderism. We also aim to foster a coalition of like-minded evangelicals to stand together for the challenging days ahead. Finally, we wish to influence a rising generation of evangelicals who are under pressure to abandon scriptural teaching about marriage, gender, and sexuality.”

The list of those who have signed the statement includes excellent evangelical leaders such as J. I. Packer, James Dobson, John MacArthur, Russell Moore, Wayne Grudem, Tony Perkins, D. A. Carson, Albert Mohler, Francis Chan, R. C. Sproul, Sam Storms, Rosaria Butterfield, and Sam Allberry.

Mike Bickle said, “I greatly appreciate and esteem John Piper, Denny Burk, and all those involved in forming The Nashville Statement. Although this is, in essence, no more than a succinct and clear statement of what Christian orthodoxy has taught regarding sexual ethics for the past two thousand years, I believe that in today’s increasingly confused and polarized culture, this is a very helpful statement, knowing that it takes both biblical clarity with boldness and tender compassion to address these issues in a relevant way.

“I believe this statement has struck the right balance in showing how the light of the Gospel can provide hope for those struggling in sexual sin while at the same time not compromising in believing the truths of the Bible that sexual intimacy is reserved and protected in context to the covenant of marriage between one man and one woman.

“Lord, we thank You for Your great mercy shown to us in the many ways that we fall short, and we thank You for Your empowering grace to walk in love as defined by the Scripture. I encourage Christians everywhere to both sign and widely distribute The Nashville Statement.”
