The Prayer Room

The Heart of IHOPKC

The Prayer Room is where everything begins. Since September 19, 1999, prayer and worship has not stopped in Kansas City. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, open to anyone who wants to come.

We build this around King David’s vision of a place where people pray to and worship God without ceasing (1 Chronicles 9:33; 22-24). Each day is divided into twelve two-hour blocks of worship-led prayer, staffed by singers, musicians, and intercessors who have given their lives to this calling. Some serve full-time as intercessory missionaries. Others volunteer — joining a prayer meeting before work, after a shift, or from thousands of miles away through our live stream.

What happens in the room is straightforward: prayer and worship, offered to Jesus. Not a performance. A meeting with God, repeated every hour of every day.

There's a laptop, some colorful pens, a tissue box, and a computer mouse on the table. The setting appears to be a classroom or study area with chairs and tables.

Our Prayer Meetings

Our prayer style is shaped by Revelation 5 — the image of harps and bowls, worship and prayer offered together before the throne of God. Every two-hour prayer meeting opens with a time of corporate worship. Following worship, the meeting typically takes one of three forms.

The worship team and intercessors pray together from a Scripture passage — typically an apostolic prayer — on a specific prayer topic. A designated prayer leader leads the set. During intercession sets, you are welcome to pray on the microphone if time allows. To do so, take a seat in the left front row to indicate your interest. The prayer leader will be happy to assist you. You may also be invited to offer a short 10–15 second prayer — what we call a Rapid Fire Prayer — open to everyone in the room.

The worship team sings through a biblical passage, creating spontaneous songs directly from Scripture. We invite you to follow along in your Bible and meditate on the passage being sung.

Worship with the Word

Sometimes two consecutive one-hour sessions are led by an individual or a small group. These are quieter, more intimate, and more simplified in structure. Like Worship with the Word, we invite you to join in worship as we come together to encounter the Lord.

Why Apostolic Prayers?

Apostolic prayers are the prayers of the apostles found throughout the New Testament — prayers God placed in the hearts of those who wrote Scripture. Praying them aligns our hearts and minds with what God cares about: unity, strength, boldness, faith, and wisdom. Stop by the Welcome Center and pick up the blue sheet titled Apostolic Prayers for a list of helpful verses.

How Can I Engage?

Whether you're in the room or watching from across the world, there's a place for you here.

If you’re joining us in-person

Many people come to sit quietly while praying or journaling, pace in the aisles, or meditate on the Scripture being sung. Others engage more actively by praying along with the intercession, or stepping to the microphone when invited. There is no single right way to be in the room. Come as you are and let the Spirit lead.

A few practical notes: the prayer room is open to anyone, any time. No check-in required. The Welcome Center team is available to answer questions or help you get oriented.

If you’re joining us online

The live stream is more than a broadcast — it's an open invitation to pray along with us from wherever you are. A few ways to engage:

Follow along in your Bible with the passage the worship team is singing. Pray with the intercession topics as they're voiced on the microphone. Journal what you're hearing, sensing, or praying. Let the music create space for your own conversation with God. You don't have to be in Kansas City for any of it to be real.

If joining us online has stirred something in you, we'd love to have you visit in person. The room is waiting.

A Sanctuary of Prayer for the Nations

The IHOPKC prayer room exists to partner in the Great Commission — advancing 24/7 prayer with worship, proclaiming the beauty of Jesus, and standing with intercessors around the world who believe the Church is called to pray until He returns.

All nations. One room.
